    • Bio. Professor Helge A. Wurdemann is a roboticist and Professor of Robotics leading research on soft haptics and robotics at University College London Mechanical Engineering. He is also Co-Director of the Intelligent Mobility at UCL (IM@UCL) lab, a full-size driving simulator. His Soft Haptics group focuses on the hardware design and application of soft material robotic systems that have the ability to change their shape and stiffness on demand bridging the gap between traditional rigid and entirely soft robots. He creates and embeds innovative stiffness-controllable mechanisms as well as combines advanced Artificial Intelligence with control strategies in robotic prototypes emerging from the lab. Prior to the position at UCL, he was awarded Dipl-Ing in Electrical Engineering from the Leibniz University of Hanover and was invited to take a part-time EU project manager/part-time post-doctoral research associate position on EU project STIFF-FLOP. Between 2012 and 2015, he coordinated research activities of this multidisciplinary consortium of 12 partners with a total budget of €7.35m. Prof. Wudermann has been (co-)organiser of conferences, workshops, and symposia in the field of robotics, notably, he was the Co-General Chair of ICRA 2023 – premium robotics conference of IEEE RAS.

    • Bio. Dr Adam 'Ad' Spiers is a lecturer in Robotics and Machine Learning in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of Imperial College London. He leads the Manipulation and Touch Lab. His main research focus is on robot manipulation, where he takes inspiration from biological systems to develop new robotic hand hardware, sensing and control approaches. He also conducts research in upper-limb prosthetics, human hand function and handheld shape-changing haptic interfaces. The latter topic is primarily related to providing non-visual navigation assistance to pedestrians. Prior to joining Imperial he conducted robotics research at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems, Yale University, Bristol Robotics Laboratory, the Joint European Torus (JET) and The University of Reading.
