Robot-Assisted Systems for Medical Training
by Dr Thilina Lalitharatne, Lecturer in Robotics and Mechatronics, School of Engineering and Materials Science, Queen Mary University of London (joined ARQ in Jan 2023)
Abstract. Medical trainees usually acquire examination and surgical skills by practicing on real patients with feedback from experts. Given the risks associate in dealing with real patients, Simulation-Based Education (SBE) is frequently used in medical training as it provides effective and safer learning environment. Robotic Patients have gained much of an attention in the recent past as one of the potential SBE methods. In this talk, I will present my recent work on human-robot interactions and social robotics approaches to develop robotic patients for physical examinations training.
